Cloud computing is often described as a disruptive shift in the IT landscape. Sometimes that can be misconstrued as a one-time event, rather than a process that will occur over time. In fact, the way cloud computing is transforming how businesses operate can be seen in some very practical ways.

One area that is ripe for a new approach is email archiving and ediscovery. With the explosion of data the need for a smarter way to handle such volume is important. The founders of Sonian thought there was a better way by creating a software as a service (SaaS) solution that would leverage cloud computing infrastructure to provide a secure, compliant and affordable archive and discovery service.

Sonian, founded in 2006, launched its SaaS solution in 2007. All together the company has raised $7 million in venture funding, including a Series A round with Prism Venture Works and Summerhill Venture Partners.

Value Proposition

Most customers would agree that email archiving and data retention are not something they need to build a core competency around. Yet, most companies do it in house, which soaks up capital and computing resources. Sonian provides a SaaS email archiving and ediscovery solution on-demand. Their pay-as-you-go service is about 1/3 the price as if you were to run it on-premise. Sonian built its SaaS from the ground-up for cloud computing, to ensure scalability and security.

Products & Services

Sonian Archive SA2 is a hosted archive solution created with grid computing infrastructure technologies. The design results in high reliability with no single point of failure, as well as, efficient use of computer resources. Sonian provides a 99.99% data retention SLA in a hosted environment. Sonian hosts customer data in completely separate “customer-specific” data silos in their hosted environment. Customer data is never mixed with any other customer’s information.
