Savvis

Overview

Savvis was formed by the merger of two companies with several years experience and expertise in high-performance private IT infrastructure and internet services. Initially targeting the financial services industry, they expanded and went public in 2000. Today, Savvis opeates 28 data centers globally and their product portfolio includes Web services, business continuity, content management, proximity hosting, virtualization and cloud computing.

Savvis' cloud computing solutions consist of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offerings - core compute, storage, network and security services - and a platform built on their hosting service, which companies use to deliver Software as a Service (SaaS). The company recently announced Project Spirit, in partnership with Cisco and VMware, that aims to deliver a virtual private data center with pre-set quality of service (QoS) levels and leverages Savvis' cloud infrastructure. A beta is planned for later in 2009.

Savvis' IaaS offerings help reduce captial expenditures, scale more efficiently and effectively, add flexibility to IT operations and reduce costs associated with space and energy.

Their SaaS offerings are geared towards helping companies, including ISVs, transition their applications to a multi-tennant model and leverage Savvis' hosting platform for a quicker time-to-market and lower total cost of ownership.

Project Spirit expands on Savvis' current offerings and aims to deliver an enterprise-class virtual private data center proving greate scalability, broader quality of service (QoS) and improved security through an intuitive Web-based user interface.

Products & Services

• Cloud Computing infrastructure resources for compute, network and security are delivered as a service in a secure and scalable way.
• Software as a Service offerings help companies transition traditional applications to those run in a multi-tennant environment and leverage Savvis' platform for the hosting and delivery of SaaS; partnerships with Parallels and SOASTA make it easier to make the switch and test and tune the performance of the new services.
• Project Sprit is a virtual private data center that hooks into Savvis' cloud computing infrastructure and can be created and managed through a Web-based portal. "Push button" automation makes it easier for IT pros to deliver cloud-based services the business.
