Nasuni epitomizes this trend. The one-year old start-up is backed by $8 million in first-round funding from North Bridge Venture Partners and Sigma Partners. Moreover, Nasuni aims to make on-demand storage a much more accessible, usable and secure option for small and medium-sized businesses

Value Proposition

Nasuni brings the value of on-demand “raw” storage, typically used for backup, to businesses by allowing them to use the cloud as their primary file storage facility. Because Nasuni protects customer files with snapshots, in conjunction with the redundant architecture of the cloud and its off-site nature, there is no need for backup or remote storage. End-to-end encryption ensures that data is always secure and never visible to the cloud provider or Nasuni.

Nasuni Filer automatically provisions file storage on Amazon, Iron Mountain, Nirvanix or Rackspace. Running in a VMware virtual machine it integrates with public cloud services, while providing features such as encryption, caching, de-duplication, automatic provisioning, and synchronous snapshots.
