Hyperic

Overview

Hyperic provides monitoring and management software for all types of web-based applications and has three broad product lines: web application management, operations intelligence, and cloud monitoring. In terms of cloud computing, even though an application gets deployed to the cloud, that doesn't negate the need to monitor and manage the application - an issue which is compounded as one moves more and more applications to the the cloud. With Hyperic, companies can automatically discover, monitor, and manage software services, regardless of type or location, and easily create a unified view of the performance and health of their applications.

In May 2009, Hyperic was acquired by SpringSource, a leader in Java application infrastructure and management. According to the press release: "By accelerating and unifying the application lifecycle from developer to data center and bridging the divide between development and IT operations teams, SpringSource can meet all the needs of companies building and deploying business-critical Java applications."

Note: SpringSource was acquired by VMware in August 2009.

Value Proposition

Hyperic gives companies a fast, reliable, and scalable way to manage web applications and infrastructure hosted on premise or in the cloud. It enables automatic discovery of software and network resources, automatic reporting of application health, software inventory database and its operating history, remote control and administration of resources, alerting, notification, escalation, and corrective action, and provides capabilities for analysis, visualization, and reporting.

Products & Services

• Hyperic HQ is a web application monitoring and managment solution available in both an open source edition and an enterprise edition; the enterprise edition includes a number of features (e.g. automatic discovery, advanced monitoring) designed for larger and more complex environments.
• Hyperic HQ for Amazon Web Services (AWS) allows users to monitor and manage their applications running on Amazon EC2; it's available in three sizes, you simply launch the Hyperic AMI (Amazon Machine Image) and you pay-as-you go.
• CloudStatus, in beta, is a live performance monitoring system of the leading cloud services like Amazon and Google App Engine.
