Cloud.com, formerly known as VMOps, was started in 2008 and is a well-funded startup with total funding to date is $17.6 million. Its management team has roots in open source, virtualization and infrastructure development. The company says it has pioneered a new approach to simplifying and accelerating the deployment, management and configuration of multi-tier and multi-tenant private and public cloud services.

Recognizing that organizations face a challenging task when trying to build their own infrastructure as a service (IaaS) environments, Cloud.com’s CloudStack integrates with existing data center infrastructure without modification, special-purpose hardware or reconfiguration, making it possible for customers to realize the benefits of cloud computing. Cloud.com provides an open environment that interoperates with a user’s existing cloud initiatives through the implementation of common cloud frameworks like the Amazon Web Services API, Citrix Cloud Center (C3) and VMware’s vCloud initiative.
