Ubuntu has made great strides in its cloud computing strategy since it announced it would expand beyond its core offerings (OS, browser, office apps) in 2008. Today, the company claims over 7,000 private clouds have been built with their technology. With the initial release of Ubuntu 9.04 and subsequently with Ubuntu 9.1, the company solidified its public cloud and private cloud offerings, allowing customers to build a private cloud within the enterprise that could also connect to a public cloud, such as Amazon EC2.
