CA Rolls Out New Cloud Management Suite

CA Technologies unveiled its cloud computing strategy as it announced a new suite of cloud management solutions during the CA World Conference in Las Vegas. Called the CA Cloud-Connected Management Suite it is designed to handle what the company calls the "IT supply chain" or the combination of internal and external resources that IT uses to deliver applications and services to end-users.

“Historically, IT relied almost exclusively on internal resources and infrastructure to meet the needs of the enterprise,” said Chris O’Malley, executive vice president of the Cloud Products & Solutions Business Line at CA Technologies, during a speech today at CA World 2010. “As companies embrace cloud computing, however, they increasingly partner with whichever external providers can best help them meet their changing requirements. This means an organization’s ability to gain competitive advantages from technology will be contingent upon their ability to continuously optimize their IT supply chains.”

There are four products in the CA Cloud-Connected Management Suite. These solutions will be the fruits of recent acquisitions by CA. Over the last year the company bought 3Tera, Oblicore and Cassatt to round-out its cloud computing portfolio.

The new cloud management suite consists of: CA Cloud Insight, to help with the assessment of "internal and external IT services relative to business priorities"; CA Cloud Compose, incorporates 3Tera's AppLogic to enable the creation and deployment of cloud-based infrastructure services; CA Cloud Optimize, will leverage metrics from the Service Management Index and a new community that CA launched called the CloudCommons.com; and CA Cloud Orchestrate, which will "provide workflow control and policy-based automation of changes to service infrastructures based on inputs from CA Cloud Insight, CA Cloud Compose, CA Cloud Optimize and content downloads expected to be available from Cloud Commons".
