Appistry launched a new on-demand storage solution, Appistry CloudIQ Storage, with the goal of merging the virtues of scalability--at the petabyte level--and reliability--designed with no single point of failure--with low cost. One key differentiator is something the company calls computational storage, "unifies applications and data by storing data across commodity servers and intelligently migrating application processing to the machines containing the relevant data. As a result, computational storage allows for the delivery of data-intensive applications at unprecedented price points."
Appistry also announced the Hadoop Edition of its CloudIQ Storage solution. According to the company, the Hadoop Edition offers "plug-and-play compatibility with the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS). Unlike HDFS, Appistry CloudIQ Storage has no single point of failure or network bottleneck, enabling easy deployment in place of HDFS for mission-critical applications where scalability, reliability and throughput are key considerations."
